[Anyone remembers the old "I am not going to spend a lot for this muffler" commercial?]

The 3 ft. is my favorite length to connect any electronics that happen to be very close to each other.

Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for a premium brand, it should be stated that at this length – 3 ft., you will get as good a service from a no-brand cable as you would from a super-expensive rip-off. An HDMI 1.3 cable should be able to carry, error free, all the signal your electronic equipment may put out.

The FUD campaign attempting to attract buyers toward the more expensive brands makes a series of claims. I will address them, as they may apply to this specific cable.

- Signal attenuation is less over a more expensive cable. – TRUE, BUT that’s irrelevant on a 3 ft. length. The HDMI consortium stated that even the cables that were not ‘certified’ as ‘Category 2′ or ‘High-Speed’ will meet the requirements at lengths of 6 ft. or less. At 3 ft., it would be a waste to consider an ‘expensive’ alternative. In addition, the newer devices have sufficient processing power and are sensitive enough to properly interpret even the more ambiguous ‘digits’ they receive.

- The expensive cables are better engineered and their contacts are less likely to break. – TRUE, BUT how many times is one going to plug an HDMI cable in and out of an HDMI socket over the cable’s lifetime? 5 times? 10 times? The ‘better engineered’ claim has no practical importance. If your cable works on ‘day one’ the odds are that it will be left in the back of your box for many month or years before it is unplugged and plugged back in. If this cable is purchased for home use, the ‘better engineered’ claim should not be of a major concern.

- The more expensive cables are ‘future proof’. – NOT TRUE. Claims are made that, if you buy the more expensive wires you won’t have to buy new ones when ‘new standards’ emerge because the more expensive wire will support them. This is untrue on 2 different levels. First, your cheap cable was purchased to work with some very specific devices which need HDMI 1.3 and will never support the ‘new standard’. The new standards will be supported by new electronic devices but, for as long as you keep the existing ones, you will still need this cable to connect them. Second, the emerging HDMI 1.4 specs call for physically different connectors so, no matter how large a bandwidth the existing expensive cables may support, it won’t matter because you still won’t able to plug them into an HDMI 1.4 port so… there go your $5 or… there go your $200, depending on your having purchased a ‘cheap’ or a ‘top of the line’ HDMI cable.

3 Stars Not as good as expected from Samsung
This TV was very easy to set-up with all features easy to access and understand. Picture quality ranges from good to marginal, never excellent. The main problem is a somewhat weak washed-out picture which lacks color depth and brightness. No amount of adjustment entirely solves the problem. Also, the sound is weak and cheap sounding which can be anoying. These problems could be typical of a small set.

It does the same thing as the cheap brand that does the same thing. U are basically buying a brand name and their extravagant advertising. Does it come with real gold or real piece diamond then i’m sure a few buyers would like them. Or if you feel paying more makes u feel it does wonders, just get the ones that cost 30 to 40 dollars from any brand. I’m sure that will make buyers feel monstrous. 1 Star Don’t get ripped off
I normally don’t write reviews, but I’m doing this one mainly because I want to lower the 3.5 star (average) that it currently has, so then maybe one chap won’t get ripped off. It does the same thing as cheap cables, at 60x the price. The ugly copper/white/black color design is not worth the $197 premium that you’re paying. Actually, I’d rather get regular black colored HDMI cable, even if both were priced the same.

1 Star So much improvment, I thought it was real!
So what if it cost $10 to manufacture? I’ll gladly hand over $190 just for bragging rights! When I connected this cable between my 60″ Liquid Plasma Blue Laser LED TV and my Walmart Blu Ray Player, amazing things started to happen. I immediately noticed greatly enhanced definition and quality in both my own pectorals as well as my wife’s derrier. As we were watching TV, the actors seemed so real that they actually stepped out of the screen and invited us to go to Cancun with them. So we did! What a great time we had with Brad, Tom, Jen, Angelina, and Cathy-Zeta! I highly recommend that everyone get one of these, even if you don’t have a TV!

I ordered this cable, the order was accepted and then, apparently, eforcity decided to raise the price $5 and cancel orders at a lower rate. They seem to be a shady operation so I would at least advise using a different vendor.

This feature should have been built-in to the Slingbox Pro from the beginning. They now have a new model of the Slingbox that has these connections built-in along with 1080i upscaling. The Slingbox pro was supposed to be made for multiple connections and has an HDMI like connection but will not work unless this HD Connect is attached to it. A HDMI input/output connection on this dongle would have received a better review. Overall, I was not pleased with the PQ of the slingbox with this connection via PC or remote access and got rid of it.

This cable is used to tie a SlingboxPro into an RGB stream such as the one between your TIVO HD unit and your monitor.

Some reviews on this site complain about the price. There are dozens for sale on eBay for under $20 (including shipping and extra cables!).

Some reviews say the cable should not have been needed, but then the cost of the Slingbox would have increased, while only a portion of buyers would have really needed the RGB connections. 3 Stars Rather Disappointed
This unit was purchased to replace a 20+ year old antenna that was somewhat corroded and had several bent or missing elements. The old antenna was pulling in all of the local Baltimore stations well, but reception of Washington DC area channels (particularly UHF) was spotty at best. After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews here and elsewhere, I had high hopes that the HD-8200U would improve my reception substantially.

As others have noted, the instructions do leave a bit to be desired. With careful review and some common sense, though, assembly is not too difficult. In general, the antenna appears to be well constructed. I did encounter one manufacturing issue, however, when attempting to join the front and rear sections. A bolt hole that had been punched in the tube had not been done so cleanly. The result was a large “burr” on the inside of the tube that needed to be broken off and filed down before the parts could be put together.

After completing assembly and mounting the unit in the same orientation as the previous antenna, I hurried into the house – anxious to check out signal strengths and rescan for any additional channels. I was surprised to find that I had in fact lost several stations. The receiver was no longer detecting DC channels 4, 5, 20, and 66 at all. I spent considerable time adjusting the antenna rotor, but to no avail. Signal strengths for all of the local stations (both UHF and VHF) are quite good but about the same as with the old antenna.

I am not running a preamplifier, but I really expected this unit to perform at least as well as my previous weather-worn, beat up antenna without one. This has been a waste of both time and money for me.

5 Stars GREAT Reception!
For years we had an RCA VHF/UHF antenna mounted to our chimney, but it came down Easter weekend of 2009 from a tornado. Since several of the Nashville stations had already began broadcasting digitally, we were really enjoying digital TV. For a replacement I decided to try a DB8 from Antennas Direct, but it failed to live up to its reviews (don’t get me started). It was only UHF and upper VHF and none of the stations were all that strong.

Well… it’s a new day and a new antenna. Got the HD8200U from Amazon and it really sucks! That’s a good thing! It sucks in every broadcast station in middle Tennessee. It’s pulling in over 10 different stations, most of which are broadcasting with subchannels. I now have 23 different channels/sub-channels to choose.

Part of what makes this antenna work so well is its size. This is a BIG antenna. It’s 14′ long and over 9′ at the widest. But, it was amazingly easy to assemble and install. It is very light weight and well balanced. I installed it myself – took about hour to assemble it and then another hour or so to get it installed. Do not even think about installing it with anything stronger than a breeze. It accepts a 2″ pole, but I just used a 1-1/4″ top pole from a chain-link fence. Worked great. Oh, this is without any amplifier and it’s split to three TVs. Most stations are pegged around 98% signal strength with a couple around 85%

Now that I’ve gushed over how great it is, let me say a few things that really ticked me off. They’re minor, but very annoying. 1) Ordered the antenna and one of the vanes was installed backwards at the factory. It was riveted on so I couldn’t correct it. Because of this, it wouldn’t lock in to place. Returned it to Amazon and had them ship another. 2) Second antenna was OK, but there were some nuts and bolts missing. Had to make a trip to Home Depot to get what was missing.

At any rate, I’m very pleased with the reception and how easily the installation went. Except for the two problems, it’s about as perfect as can be. While this isn’t a cheap antenna, it’s a whole lot cheaper than paying for cable or satalite each month!

2 Stars Big Disappointment
I used the Winegard web site for their recommendations and followed it by the letter. Antenna must be assembled on the ground. Impossible to do on the roof. It is big and bulky so have at least another person to help you get it to the mounting position. The signal strength is worse than the 20 year old antenna I had in the attic which was 1/2 the size. I get fewer stations with the new Winegard than I got prevoius old antenna. The new antenna is outside and 20 ft higher than the old and pointing in the same direction. Big expense, poor results. May work fine if you are in a strong signal area but I bought it to improve recepption as I am out 50-60 miles.

5 Stars It’s in the attic
I live 30 miles from Chicago.

Before purchasing this antenna I read all the reviews. Most of the concerns that people seemed to have had nothing to do with the antenna, but actually centered around the flimsy cardboard box it was shipped in. When our antenna arrived the box was loose at both ends and there were a few nuts rolling free in the box that could have very easily fallen out. But we lucked out and everything was there.

By the way – we utilized the super free shipping that Amazon offers. The antenna arrived a couple of days after we ordered it.

We put the antenna in the attic of our two story home. Our home is surrounded by larger houses and lots of very tall trees. We get all our normal channels, plus a few I never knew existed. I was concerned that, with such a powerful antenna, we might pick up too many channels and they would spill over on each other, but since this antenna is very directional, that has not happened.

I am very pleased with this antenna. It feels like I’ve purchased a lifetime of free reception for the mere cost of about three months of cable TV.

By the way, be careful when exiting your attic. My ladder slipped and I fell out of the attic. But don’t worry! I’m okay….just pulled a muscle in my arm while trying to break the fall.

I installed this tv a few days ago. It replaces a 2000 Daewoo that served me well for 9 years. I was forced to upgrade my television because my cable provider started pulling good channels off of regular cable and putting them on digital. I tried to install the new cable box to the Daewoo but that tv had no inputs other than the cable input (I was already using an RF converter box and thus was approaching cable overload). So I reluctantly ended up buying the Toshiba 22AV500U here. After all of the work and money, I must say that I am pleased with the results. Digital cable is fun and has a lot of features and all of my shows have never looked clearer or sharper. I am also enjoying watching my dvds on the Toshiba tv. You have not seen Polar Express until you’ve seen it in high definition!

The Toshiba is high quality. I have no dead pixels and no backlight bleed. I did have an issue with the stand not moving when I first pulled it out of the box but that was because I wasn’t pulling hard enough (you never know how delicate these modern electronics are). I also ended up calling Toshiba customer support a few times. Each time I talked to someone knowledgeable and helpful.

As for the size, I have found 22 inches to be more than adequate. I have a smallish entertainment center and didn’t want to upgrade that too. The tv is in a rather large living room and there isn’t a bad seat in the room.

I also should mention that at work my Dell lcd monitor made me so sick that I had to go back to the old crt monitor. The issue I think is that lcds are lit by a florescent bulb. Because florescent bulbs flash like a strobe light they can sometimes make you feel ill when you stare into them. I have had no issues with that with my Toshiba.

I also highly recommend that you use an hdmi cable between your dvd player and the Toshiba (and everywhere else you can too). I bought mine here on Amazon for a few dollars (the 6 ft 1080p cable by DVI Gear). It is an excellent cable. What the local stores charge for the same thing is quite scandalous.

5 Stars don’t fear the sound
I was a bit apprehensive on what the sound quality would be like on this TV having read all the reviews. I can tell you that I have this in an 11 X 14 room with cathedral ceilings and I have absolutely NO issues with the sound quality! The picture quality is fabulous and the set up was so simple. I like this so much that I’m thinking of upgrading my living room TV to a larger version of this. Don’t let the reviews on the sound quality hold you back from purchasing. And don’t forget to go with the super saver free shipping. My delivery with this option was less than 48 hours from my confirmation!!
