I do not have a source for HD, but simply wanted a nice big flat screen for regular satellite TV. I found this one to be very adequate. Other reviews knock the sound quality a little. I found it to be less than fantastic, but not bad at all. The only disappointment I had was the “sound leveler”. I thought it would eliminate loud commercials and variations between channels. Apparently it was not designed to do this.

1 Star Bad experience buying this TV from Amazon.
This review is for the process of buying this TV from Amazon. I know some of you only want reviews about the TV, however this review is for the bad experience I had buying it from Amazon.

Ordered the TV from Amazon on Wednesday for a very good price. Was notified on Friday via text that the tv would be delivered that day. Checked the status at Amazon and it stated “Action Required from Customer” . I called them and told them that I had not been contacted. They said we will call you later to schedule an appointment…I called them back later that day and asked about the status and they scheduled me for Monday between 12-3. I made arrangements to be home at that time. Well Monday at 12 they called and stated that they could not deliver it that day it would be be one more day. I again made arrangements to be home during their deliver window. Well at 11:30 the shipping company Pilot called and said they would be at my home at 12:20. They arrived at 1:30….Then they opened the box and the screen was broken. They took the TV away. Then I received a text that my order had been delivered. Now Amazon said I should receive my TV next Wednesday (8 more days). Skip this hassle and buy somewhere else.

5 Stars Wow!!!
So I did a lot of research on LED tv’s. Samsung by far is the best LED tv out there right now. Don’t be fooled and get another brand as Toshiba, LG, Sony, none of them can match the quality of the Samsung UN55B8000 model. Once you tune the tv, all I could say was wow! Watching HD channels and blu ray is unbelievable. The thickness and weight is something you have to see to believe. 1.2″ and 51lbs for a 55″ screen?? Unreal!

The only thing that you have to be wary of is that you do need to get used to the colors and motion. Basically everything that is HD looks like it is 3D. The characters pop almost like you are watching 3D. There are instances where everything is so crisp and clear that it looks to be in slow motion. This can be adjusted with the right setting. Funny though that if you look carefully, because the picture is so clear and crisp, you can actually tell everything is fake, as if you were on the set of the movie you are watching and you can tell all the plastic fake props on set!

5 Stars Store Card vs Amazon Credit Card
I thought I bought this TV (which is fantastic and I love it) with 12 months no payments, no interest.

It turns out that the so-called Store Card is not the Amazon credit card–and there was no such deal

using the Credit card. I ended up with $2,899.99 on my Amazon Credit Card–all due the following month.

I called Chase–the manager was arrogant as I tried to explain the problem. She giggled and said that

she’d never heard of this offer. I called Amazon–many pages of “clickable” choices.

I finally found the “Help” link. This guy was nice but explained the difference between the Amazon Credit

Card and the Amazon Store Card and suggested I ship the TV back and redo the order. Nice in theory but

I’d already unpacked and installed the “thing” so it doesn’t pan out in reality. I kept the

TV (it really is nice) and did not pack it up and ship it back, too much hassle.

Next I got an email from Amazon explaining–in so many words–how I f’d up. Nice. I wrote them back and

explained that I’d go ahead, pay off the TV then cancel mu Amazon “Confusion” Card and revert back to my Citi

card that gives me air miles. I felt better… until I received and answer back explaining that my response to THAT

email didn’t go “anywhere” because it’s unanswerable please go to (link such and such). I did, but once again I found

a busy page where it was difficult to come across the link to contact Amazon. Maybe if I still worked–I’m retired–I’d

have enough time (screwing off at work) to hack around and find these links and sort out all these cards, and offers,

etc. But as I explained in the email–that essentially went nowhere–that once I receive the Chase statement that I paid

the TV off–I will take great pride and joy in canceling that Amazon/Chase Credit Card and lick my wounds–they can

kiss my A– if I ever use it again.

5 Stars Top Picture Quality
I’m sure the price will come down as more LED/240hz TVs enter the market. But right now, this is state of the art and you have to pay a premium to get it. I read several reviews that said 240hz wasn’t worth the hype, but my wife (who has a much better eye for details)could see the difference instantly and insisted (thanks!) we go for the extra bucks.

After two visits to Best Buy and a lot of research online, I knew this was the set for me. Unfortunately, when I returned to my local BB, they couldn’t sell the 55″ model to me because they weren’t a “Magnolia” outlet. (They sell up to 46″). The nearest Magnolia Best Buy is almost two hours away and they won’t deliver. Nor will the BB website deliver it! So we went to Amazon and were pleasantly surprised that the price was better, and included free shipping and a better optional warranty. I’m sure BB is losing a LOT of business with their idiotic “Magnolia” strategy — but that’s their problem. Thanks to them turning me away, I was able to find the TV I wanted for less.

Have never ordered something this expensive before from Amazon, but the $500 discount, free delivery, and no sales tax pushed me over the edge to buy.

Placed the order on Monday Oct 12, and it was delivered today Oct 15. Absolutely no problems with CEVA Whiteglove service.

Have owned Samsung LCD TVs before and were happy with them. This TV will replace a 52″ A650 (which will be moved to the bedroom, to replace a 46″ 720P). Funny thing is that our first Samsung 46″ LCD TV cost $1K more than what I just paid for this one.

So far, am pretty happy with the picture. I keep looking for the uneven “flashlights” in the corner but haven’t seen them yet. A better test tonight when we roll the credits from a DVD. TV came with 9/5/09 v1012 firmware which we plan to update to 9/25/09 v1013 tonight.

Update 10/18/09: updated the firmware with no problem. Hubby and I could not see the “flashlights” from the corners even while credits were rolling on a black screen. Just bought a Blu-Ray player, and now the picture is even more fantastic. I am one happy camper.

3 Stars Not as good as expected from Samsung
This TV was very easy to set-up with all features easy to access and understand. Picture quality ranges from good to marginal, never excellent. The main problem is a somewhat weak washed-out picture which lacks color depth and brightness. No amount of adjustment entirely solves the problem. Also, the sound is weak and cheap sounding which can be anoying. These problems could be typical of a small set.

5 Stars Excellent TV
I have now had my set for about a month. Straight out of the box the picture was stunning. I applied some custom picture settings as per avsforum suggestions and I am exceptionally happy. After about a month now it seems the set has really warmed up and the picture seems even more rich and stunning. The overall size of 54 inches is just right for my room, not too big, definitely not too small. I was on the fence for a year to upgrade and almost bought the 58″ panny last year. I am glad I waited as I think the 58 would have been a bit too large. About my only complaint is that I am really having a hard time loving ANYTHING in SD now. Since everything is that much bigger, SD content is just not acceptable anymore. Hopefully Dish will continue to upgrade my HD offerings. Some HD feeds are obviously of inferior quality to others. My locals, for instance, sometimes are not up to par, vs ESPN which always seems to have a stunning HD feed.

I was a little surprised to know that this unit has no cooling fans, but so far heat coming off the unit has been minimal and not concerning. Actually a fan might have increased the noise at low volumes. I have read others who dislike the sound from the set, but I think it is acceptable. I did not like the bass boost option as it added an unnatural electronic hum to peoples voices, so with that off the sound is fine to me. I do occasionally run it through my receiver for regular TV viewing, but not usually. I connected the tv through my broadband connection and find the VieraCast feature interesting but is not something I use regularly by any means. Maybe this will improve with future updates or as new content is made available. It took a little experimenting to find which picture mode I like best, but overall I use a Custom mode to view sports, and the THX mode to watch most everything else.

Great TV, you won’t be dissapointed by purchasing this. Panasonic continues to be a leader in plasma technology!

Love the picture quality, but I assumed new tvs this size came with picture in a picture. This one does not. Not a big deal, but I am very surprised.

The G10 is exactly what I expected: sharp picture with great black levels. Furthermore, the anti-reflective screen is much more effective than on some of the previous models of Panasonic plasma tvs. Highly recommended.

After doing copious research for over a year, going to stores and comparing, surfing the net, I settled on two brands, Pioneer and Panasonic. The Pana won out for price though Pioneer made the best TV on the planet. I also bought a Harmon Kardon 354 AVR. I have the Klipsch Reference speakers and a yamaha sub. My 18 year old computer wiz son hooked it up, set it up and we were watching high def TV.

Even the news looks great on this thing, but it wasn’t until I played my first Blu ray that I really experienced what this thing could do. I am avoiding all the technical terms because most folks don’t know or care about all that stuff as a rule or even understand it. I can say this the HDMI format makes it all possible. I have been into home theater a long time and this TV just took it to another level. Do yourself the favor, take the plunge, you will be glad you did.

Cables are cables. The difference between a cheap hdmi cable with an expensive cable is really just aesthetics. Most cheap hdmi cables are black and look cheap but they do the same thing like those nice looking monster overpriced cables. What is awesome about this cable is that it is really cheap but it also looks great. It can be compared to the looks of those monster cables without the monster price.

One of the biggest places people waste money is on cables. Almost any electronics store you walk into will have a shelf full of cables all priced ridiculously high and all offering amazing features and benefits. Paying full price for cables is stupid and rarely leads to better quality picture or sound.

However, when purchasing budget you should be aware of build quality. There are many budget cables that while they perform well often are poorly made with loose fitting boots or thin cut prone jackets. I am happy to say that this cable has neither problem. This is simply put one of the best examples of budget cable done right. Thick strong jacket with an attractive and well designed connector. Please, don’t waste money on monster cables or other expensive cables. Pick this thing up, plug it in, and don’t look back 100% A+++ perfection!

5 Stars Great HDMI Cable
This is my first HDMIKing product and my second HDMI cable (the other HDMI cable I own is a Monster Cable, so my overall impression of the HDMIKind is based on my previous experience with that cable). After seeing the high price of HDMI cables at the store I was skeptical of the quality of this cable (as well as all the other cables on Amazon in this price range, since a really crappy HDMI cable at the store runs $30 and a mid-level cable runs $70 for 6ft., and of course they go way up from there), but this cable really delivered on quality and performance.

Long story short, like many people looking at this cable I didn’t feel like paying a huge price for an HDMI cable, but at the same time I didn’t want to get a poor quality cable either. This cable exceeded my expectations in both construction and value. For a side by side comparison to a Monster, in terms of an overall visual impression of quality and construction, it seems to be just as well made. At least as well made as Monster Cable’s 500 series HDMI cables.

Quality of construction aside, the overall picture and sound that it offers is excellent. Switching between this and a Monster Cable 500 offered the same picture and sound quality, with no noticeable difference.

I was concerned about the double insulation making for a very stiff cable, but it really isn’t that stiff. I’ve seen a lot stiffer double insulated cables. It’s only slightly stiffer then a standard cable. Not stuff enough to really make a difference.

For price and quality, you really can’t beat it. It’s a great product at a great price. I’m sure people could argue about what cable is theoretically better based on the technical specs., but in a real world application I can honestly say I didn’t see a difference between this cable and the more expensive one.

3 Stars Rather Disappointed
This unit was purchased to replace a 20+ year old antenna that was somewhat corroded and had several bent or missing elements. The old antenna was pulling in all of the local Baltimore stations well, but reception of Washington DC area channels (particularly UHF) was spotty at best. After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews here and elsewhere, I had high hopes that the HD-8200U would improve my reception substantially.

As others have noted, the instructions do leave a bit to be desired. With careful review and some common sense, though, assembly is not too difficult. In general, the antenna appears to be well constructed. I did encounter one manufacturing issue, however, when attempting to join the front and rear sections. A bolt hole that had been punched in the tube had not been done so cleanly. The result was a large “burr” on the inside of the tube that needed to be broken off and filed down before the parts could be put together.

After completing assembly and mounting the unit in the same orientation as the previous antenna, I hurried into the house – anxious to check out signal strengths and rescan for any additional channels. I was surprised to find that I had in fact lost several stations. The receiver was no longer detecting DC channels 4, 5, 20, and 66 at all. I spent considerable time adjusting the antenna rotor, but to no avail. Signal strengths for all of the local stations (both UHF and VHF) are quite good but about the same as with the old antenna.

I am not running a preamplifier, but I really expected this unit to perform at least as well as my previous weather-worn, beat up antenna without one. This has been a waste of both time and money for me.

5 Stars GREAT Reception!
For years we had an RCA VHF/UHF antenna mounted to our chimney, but it came down Easter weekend of 2009 from a tornado. Since several of the Nashville stations had already began broadcasting digitally, we were really enjoying digital TV. For a replacement I decided to try a DB8 from Antennas Direct, but it failed to live up to its reviews (don’t get me started). It was only UHF and upper VHF and none of the stations were all that strong.

Well… it’s a new day and a new antenna. Got the HD8200U from Amazon and it really sucks! That’s a good thing! It sucks in every broadcast station in middle Tennessee. It’s pulling in over 10 different stations, most of which are broadcasting with subchannels. I now have 23 different channels/sub-channels to choose.

Part of what makes this antenna work so well is its size. This is a BIG antenna. It’s 14′ long and over 9′ at the widest. But, it was amazingly easy to assemble and install. It is very light weight and well balanced. I installed it myself – took about hour to assemble it and then another hour or so to get it installed. Do not even think about installing it with anything stronger than a breeze. It accepts a 2″ pole, but I just used a 1-1/4″ top pole from a chain-link fence. Worked great. Oh, this is without any amplifier and it’s split to three TVs. Most stations are pegged around 98% signal strength with a couple around 85%

Now that I’ve gushed over how great it is, let me say a few things that really ticked me off. They’re minor, but very annoying. 1) Ordered the antenna and one of the vanes was installed backwards at the factory. It was riveted on so I couldn’t correct it. Because of this, it wouldn’t lock in to place. Returned it to Amazon and had them ship another. 2) Second antenna was OK, but there were some nuts and bolts missing. Had to make a trip to Home Depot to get what was missing.

At any rate, I’m very pleased with the reception and how easily the installation went. Except for the two problems, it’s about as perfect as can be. While this isn’t a cheap antenna, it’s a whole lot cheaper than paying for cable or satalite each month!

2 Stars Big Disappointment
I used the Winegard web site for their recommendations and followed it by the letter. Antenna must be assembled on the ground. Impossible to do on the roof. It is big and bulky so have at least another person to help you get it to the mounting position. The signal strength is worse than the 20 year old antenna I had in the attic which was 1/2 the size. I get fewer stations with the new Winegard than I got prevoius old antenna. The new antenna is outside and 20 ft higher than the old and pointing in the same direction. Big expense, poor results. May work fine if you are in a strong signal area but I bought it to improve recepption as I am out 50-60 miles.

I live 30 miles from Chicago.

Before purchasing this antenna I read all the reviews. Most of the concerns that people seemed to have had nothing to do with the antenna, but actually centered around the flimsy cardboard box it was shipped in. When our antenna arrived the box was loose at both ends and there were a few nuts rolling free in the box that could have very easily fallen out. But we lucked out and everything was there.

By the way – we utilized the super free shipping that Amazon offers. The antenna arrived a couple of days after we ordered it.

We put the antenna in the attic of our two story home. Our home is surrounded by larger houses and lots of very tall trees. We get all our normal channels, plus a few I never knew existed. I was concerned that, with such a powerful antenna, we might pick up too many channels and they would spill over on each other, but since this antenna is very directional, that has not happened.

I am very pleased with this antenna. It feels like I’ve purchased a lifetime of free reception for the mere cost of about three months of cable TV.

By the way, be careful when exiting your attic. My ladder slipped and I fell out of the attic. But don’t worry! I’m okay….just pulled a muscle in my arm while trying to break the fall.
