5 Stars Price and Features, this is the best you can find
To Compare its features and the price it is the best 32 inch LCD TV I can find. I did read a few different 32-Inch specs and user menus. Samsung and Sharp (I do not remember what modles) are better than this one but about $300 higher. JVC (1080p at sam’s club) about the same price (but $40 tax) and feature but this one has a better picture quality. Vizio has different modles and the picture quality none of them better than this one. I also compare LG32LH40 (120Hz) with this one about $100 higher but some reviews of LG32LH40 reporting few minor issues.

This TV took a total of 30 minutes to unpack, hook up, and run! What a beauty! Picture is excellent with loads of adjustments possible. Ok, the black’s a little weak but not that bad. I have it in my bedroom hooked up to Dish Network. Considered Samsung 720p for more money but this one was a steal. LG makes a great product. Buy it, you won’t be unhappy!

This TV replaced an old 24″ analog TV. Been very pleased with it so far. Price and service was very good. I was skeptical about buying a TV online but had absolutely no problems. The TV picture quality is stunning especially for sporting events. It is the perfect size for a small living room. Would definitely recommend this TV.

This product managed to bring in two stations in a location without impediments in a major metropolitan area. Design is terrible – cord comes out of bottom and it kept falling over. Plug overheated in socket so that it was HOT to the touch. It felt dangerous as both a fire and electrical hazard in that the product could not stand up on its own because of the cord. Terrible design.

1 Star One of the worst choices I’ve made
I bought this antenna because I wanted to ensure reception quality when switching to digital TV, & wanted something that would be good for an indoor antenna. From the comments on a variety of antennas, I thought this would be a good bet. I lost that bet! For the most part, this thing has proven to be a useless piece of ****.

My reception SHOULD be great. I’m right across San Francisco Bay from the primary TV tower. And my place is on somewhat higher ground than the “flats” at the edge of the bay. So one would think my reception would be the best. But with this antenna my reception has been lousy!

I’m constantly having to jump up, to turn & move the thing, trying (sometimes a hopeless task) to get an adequate signal for even the major stations that should be easy to get (& which i got fairly well with my prior super-cheap antenna, before i switched to digital).

When i finally get the best position possible (often having to turn the damned thing on its back or balance it precariously at an angle, since that sometimes is better than the upright position it’s designed to be limited to), I still often get the signal cutting out so often that it’s impossible to get an entire TV program. And every time i switch channels, i have to spend a lot of time trying to move the thing every which way, just trying to find a position where it pulls in the signal well enough to watch the program without it cutting out over & over & over again.

Before this, i had a simple, cheap antenna (”bowtie” type), without any amplification (& not made specifically for HDTV, as this one is advertised). Just a very basic antenna. This seems not one bit better, just more cumbersome; &, of course, more expensive.

The ultimate insult (misrepresentation??) is that the “amplification” does nothing whatever, as far as i can tell. When i’m having trouble with reception, i’ve tried switching it on & off a couple of times. Each time I can’t tell any difference between the amplified & unamplified reception.

Finally, what would be a very minor problem has proven to be a pain in the butt, because i’m constantly having to try to reposition it: The design seems made to look catchy, rather than being designed for ease of use. The front edges of the body are rather sharp corners. This would be NBD if one just had to set it up & leave it. But having to grab it constantly, to try to get a position that will work, it’s uncomfortable to always be grabbing sharp edges. Additionally, the cord comes out the bottom, straight down, not to the back, & must be bent to the back or front. But the design is lousy, since the cord keeps slipping out of its track, bulging below the foot of the unit, making the whole antenna precarious & often falling over if i don’t pick it up yet again & mash the cord back into its slot. (The design SHOULD be a clever way to be able to have the cord come out the front OR back. It’s just not designed well enough to accomplish this well.) This just creates more of a nuisance, every time i need to reposition it, & suggests to me a “quick-&-dirty” approach to design, caring more for a sharp look (pardon the pun) than quality & practicality.

I’ve been using (fighting with) this for months, so it’s not that i haven’t figured out what works best. I’ve tried everything i can think of, in many places & positions & conditions.

And it’s been long enough that i almost forgot: The quality of workmanship is bad enough that i almost returned it when i first tried to assemble it. One must put the flat metallic part into the body. Seems simple, & apparently should just snap in place. But the construction quality was bad enough that every time i tried, i simply could not get it in far enough for the conductor to connect. The instructions are of no help, making it sound easy. The reality was that i spent a long time trying to get this simple procedure accomplished, & only was able to do it when i got so frustrated that i smashed it in, figuring i would break the thing in my upset at this lousy product, but at least i’d get my revenge on it. That, ironically, was what proved to be necessary to get the parts to fit together — brute force. Not the sign of a quality product.

I hate to give this only one star, but given that (1) it’s done such a poor job at the only purpose it has, & (2) both the design & production quality seem less than what one should expect for even a cheap product, & (3) the “amplifier” seems to do nothing whatever, i can’t think of anything positive about the product. Admittedly, i don’t yet have anything to compare it to (except the cheap, unamplified antenna not meant for DTV), but one shouldn’t need to run tests on a dozen different antennas, to get decent reception in my near-ideal location, i would think. I’m disgusted with this.

3 Stars An Okay Antenna. Just Be Prepared To Futz With It For A While
After working with the antenna for a couple months now, I finally think that I have it positioned correctly to get the best reception. I don’t like that the amplifier is built into the coax line as you have to get power to it close to where the TV is and I am not positive it does much of anything. In order to get reception you have to have it pointed just right and with no obstructions. I moved it all over my living room before I finally got it right. Was really upset when a bunch of my recorded Tivo shows were all jittery. Even the slightest turn messes up the reception by many percentage points. It is almost like I need two of these pointed in different directions. Also, the coax coming out of the unit is permanently attached so you can’t add a longer cable. I had to buy a coax coupler in order to extend the unit to the other side of the living room. But after all of that setup I like the reception I get now. I just hope no one bumps the antenna or I will have to start all over. Reminds me of the rearview mirror in the car. Don’t mess with it once it is set up!

5 Stars In my NJ area, this works much better than others I have tried.
I already had an amplified indoor HDTV antenna and it worked OK but I only received 15 channels and they all suffered from rain fade and even went out for a few seconds on coludy days. ie… almost daily short outages and I had to adjust the antenna for most channels. This became a pain as if I wanted to watch 3, 10, 17, 29 it was one way and 23, 61 and others another.

I was looking around and this Terk went on sale for cheap so I figured I would give it a try. I had used other indoor antennas before and was not expecting a big difference. Boy was I wrong. I hooked up this antenna and spent about 10 minutes adjusting it and after a little trial and error, the number of channels I received almost doubled to 28. I cant believe I receive channel 6 now as I have never received it before with any antenna I ever tried. 28 crisp clear channels and all for free and much much less rain fade and I have not had to adjust it at all after my initial adjustment.

READ the instructions as the two bipole antennas that come on it make a huge difference. I probably did what most do and extended them all the way and pointed them up in the air. This is not the best for the lower channels and you might not get many. I didnt get many channels until I read in the manual to shorten the antennas and dont point them up or in a “V” shape, point them horizontal. This made a HUGE difference and what got me channel 6.

I was so impressed, I ran a splitter and some cable and hooked this one antenna to three TV’s and am seriously thinking of getting rid of my expensive Verizon Fios service. I dont watch a lot of TV, mostly local news in the morning and at night and then some shows like CSI, Survivor and after thinking aboout my TV watching habits, probably 90% of what I like to watch I can still watch but now for free.

I do want to add though that any like every antenna, it depends on YOUR area. You might not get 28 channels like I do and it might not make much of a difference like it did for me here in NJ. I am about 40 miles from Phila and 60-80 from NY. Also fool with the bipole rod adjustment, it can make a huge difference. Don’t just pull them out and thats it. Pull them out, look at the TV, shorten them, look at the TV, position them horiizontally, look at the TV, and so on. Without spending the time doing this, I would probably be posting a review this didnt make much of a difference from my old antenna.

5 Stars Great way to avoid cable and satellite costs.
I’ve got a CCW classroom and office that needs TV only to keep my students occupied in the 1/2 hour between when the doors open and the class starts so I put one of these in there to pick up the local HD channels. In virtually every class someone comments what a great picture I’m getting and they are amazed when they find out it’s being picked up on “rabbit ears”.

Based on that experience I bought another for a guest room I have that I’m not about to pay for an additional satellite receiver. I installed that the other day and it works equally as well as the one in the classroom.

We have comcast cable with HD TV, cable modem and DVR. Everything works fine, no signal problems. I love the fact that it uses a coax cable for power so you can easily make a custom length cable for a very neat installation. Excellent product at a good price.

5 Stars my HD is alot more clear
This device fixed the weak signal. With HD box sometimes I would get fuzzy picture, lost sound, picture freezes, and even lost of certain channels. My original setup consist of 3 different splitters. The best signal only went to the 1st splitter. After installing this 8 port splitter, I noticed a huge improvement on my HD channels and every TV is alot clearer enven w/ out HD. I recommend this product to anyone that is using more that 1 splitter.

Now I know how stores get their TV on display so clear!!!

In the manaual theres 1 port(top right) designated for modem/phone. I havent tried since dont have cable modem yet. But I did go through the reviews and people mentioned it worked for modem. I emailed some sellers online if modem does work for this device and they said “NO” since this is a “PASSIVE” return path and I will need “ACTIVE”. Will need “ACTIVE” to be able to return the signal back to the cable company for modems….weird.

***UPDATE***

Added cable modem. Since adding internet I noticed the HD channels are now a bit grainny, snow, and some ghost. When I had cable tv ONLY, with this amp my HD was crystal clear. Will try out the more expensive ELECTROLINE EDA-FT08300 8 port Active return.

5 Stars No more fuzz!
I purchased this amplifier / splitter because I was having signal problems with the TV cable in my house. The incoming analog cable was split six ways to run to different rooms and I was losing signal and getting a fuzzy TV picture on some of the longer cable runs. This unit resolved the issue and now the picture is very clear on all of the TV’s in the house.

I simply removed the old splitter and installed this one in place of it. The unit can be powered remotely using an extra coax cable. This is a convenient feature when locating the splitter in locations without power, such as an attic, crawl space, or basement. I made a and ran it from the splitter to an electrical outlet under the stairs in my basement – a distance of about 30 feet.

Notes:

A coax for supplying power is not included with the unit. You will need an extra coax TV cable long enough to reach from the unit to a power outlet.

The unit did not come with installation instructions but all of the ports on the unit are labeled. Installation should be easy for anyone possessing at least a basic knowledge of CATV principles.

This unit uses a passive (unamplified) return path. This is not an issue unless you are sending TWO-WAY communications through the unit, as with a cable modem. If you will be doing so, you will need a more expensive unit that includes an active (amplified) return path.

First off, I am not one to write reviews for products but I had to for this product. I live in a house that also has an in-law suite built onto it. I have one cable coming to the house, split 4 times going into the house and so many other splits in the house that I couldn’t possibly count them all. I hooked this up at the splits outside the house and was just amazed at what it did to improve the quality of our picture. I never thought I would get pass this issue of poor TV quality and was beyond frustrated. [Anyone remembers the old "I am not going to spend a lot for this muffler" commercial?]

The 3 ft. is my favorite length to connect any electronics that happen to be very close to each other.

Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for a premium brand, it should be stated that at this length – 3 ft., you will get as good a service from a no-brand cable as you would from a super-expensive rip-off. An HDMI 1.3 cable should be able to carry, error free, all the signal your electronic equipment may put out.

The FUD campaign attempting to attract buyers toward the more expensive brands makes a series of claims. I will address them, as they may apply to this specific cable.

- Signal attenuation is less over a more expensive cable. – TRUE, BUT that’s irrelevant on a 3 ft. length. The HDMI consortium stated that even the cables that were not ‘certified’ as ‘Category 2′ or ‘High-Speed’ will meet the requirements at lengths of 6 ft. or less. At 3 ft., it would be a waste to consider an ‘expensive’ alternative. In addition, the newer devices have sufficient processing power and are sensitive enough to properly interpret even the more ambiguous ‘digits’ they receive.

- The expensive cables are better engineered and their contacts are less likely to break. – TRUE, BUT how many times is one going to plug an HDMI cable in and out of an HDMI socket over the cable’s lifetime? 5 times? 10 times? The ‘better engineered’ claim has no practical importance. If your cable works on ‘day one’ the odds are that it will be left in the back of your box for many month or years before it is unplugged and plugged back in. If this cable is purchased for home use, the ‘better engineered’ claim should not be of a major concern.

- The more expensive cables are ‘future proof’. – NOT TRUE. Claims are made that, if you buy the more expensive wires you won’t have to buy new ones when ‘new standards’ emerge because the more expensive wire will support them. This is untrue on 2 different levels. First, your cheap cable was purchased to work with some very specific devices which need HDMI 1.3 and will never support the ‘new standard’. The new standards will be supported by new electronic devices but, for as long as you keep the existing ones, you will still need this cable to connect them. Second, the emerging HDMI 1.4 specs call for physically different connectors so, no matter how large a bandwidth the existing expensive cables may support, it won’t matter because you still won’t able to plug them into an HDMI 1.4 port so… there go your $5 or… there go your $200, depending on your having purchased a ‘cheap’ or a ‘top of the line’ HDMI cable.

Part of me loves this product. A nice easy to use, clear, re sizable HD TV on your computer monitor. I bought the hybrid 3 years ago and have loved it ever since.

So the question is “If you love it, why only three stars.” The answer to this lies in the software. When I bought the this device I installed the software which came with it. About 2 months ago I got a message on my screen asking if I wanted to upgrade. I figured what the hell and clicked yes. Everything looked fine, it auto installed, wrote over my old software and when everything was ready it gave me the option of paying for the upgrade.

Yes, first it deletes/writes over your old software, then it tells you that now you have to pay $100 to activate the new upgrade. So now I am faced with the choice of paying 2/3 the price of the original hybird to be able to download tv to my iphone (which I don’t own) or not use the original device I paid for at all.

Hopefully I can find my old install CD. Either that or I intend to look into pirating it.

I usually make my reviews short and leave the longer reviews for the video/audiophiles..being I am just a regular middle aged guy who likes gadgets! This little gadget is user friendly. Easily installed and easy to set up. Was able to get channels immediately with little effort or pointing antenna even though I live 30 miles from the nearest transmission tower… all in HDTV. Apple with TIVO just doesn’t get any better than this!

5 Stars GREAT TV TUNER!!
I’ll keep it short:

- Instead of buying a TV, I bought the EyeTV Hybrid which is cheaper, provides great quality and has a lot of features!

- You can enjoy recording your shows/movies directly on your hard drive, which is cool, and you don’t have to worry much about the storage these days !

- Pause what you’re watching, even if it’s LIVE! All the channels have a certain buffer that will store a big amount of time so you’ll be able to navigate back and forth.

- You’re not forced to watch all these ads on TV, here’s what I do: Pick my channel, wait for a few minutes, then I start watching using my buffer and whenever there’s an ad, just skip it ! (this way you’ll always be behind the LIVE broadcasting, but at least you’ll enjoy the show!)

- I’m using it with the Cable, so I tried some HD channels: MAGNIFICENT!!

- The software that comes with it has so many features, you can even get it for the iPhone which enables you to watch TV on your iPhone (using WI-FI) and even schedule recordings from the iPhone right to your Mac.

- It’s built for the Mac, so the interface is nice!

I just recommend this item if you’re looking for a TV Tuner to use on your Mac.

It does everything it advertises and perfect for what I needed BUT, the USB stick became very hot and now, the light does not come on. Still works fine but I may have to get an exchange since I had it less than 30 days.

4 Stars Tuner sensitivity needs some improvement
I was able to install and run through the autotune feature while connected to an OTA signal from a Phillips amplified indoor antenna. However, compared to my ASTC zenith digital tuner used with a conventional TV monitor, some weak signals were not detected. This is my main complaint-tuner sensitivity. This means they need to spend more on the hardware chips and charge more too. However, the ability to watch very good quality recorded programs, and the well designed software make this an good way to record and archive programs for watching in the future. A disappointment in the software was the inability to add later programs manually without scanning through the entire spectum. So, if you know a channel isn’t being picked up due to antenna position etc., you need to be able to view the signal strength at that frequency (channel #) while you adjust the antenna to optimize it. Most conventional, table top tuners have a mode that allows this. The other thing I found annoying was that the software was buffering the encoded signal to memory and thus accessing the disc even when one wasn’t watching a program so I exited the application when I wasn’t recording or watching. I would have liked to keep the program open so I could check the built in program guide for future recordings without restarting the program. This disc access slows the computer down, and I have a very fast computer, powerful computer. Overall, I’d recommend this for the low price and overall functionality and I kept mine and will continue to use it.

This is a great buy I have several LCDs HD around the house and did my research before this buy. The video quality is great. Clear and vivid colors. Motionflow is a plus, great for sports. Movies look great especially Bluray on 1080p. The picture looks like its going to pop out of the screen. This tv has great features as you can see, plus the xcross feature is sleek. You can watch Youtube on the tv; program weather,stock and news widgets plus tweeter and more to come (must have a broadband connection). You can also connect to your home network to access movies,pictures and music from your computer(s) to watch on your tv. The design of the tv is clean and does not look cheap, the frame around the screen is no more then an 1 1/2inch thick. The stand is rectangular and has a nice glossy finish. Has a multitude of input connectors. Great tv. No problems. The sound is fine for regular programing but if you want to enjoy movie quality sound don’t expect the tv’s speakers to do it unless your in a small room, so if you want great sound with this great tv just invest in a home theater system (Sony Bravia Home Theaters have a great kick)

5 Stars It’s about time
I have been waiting for quite some time to buy a new tv. Originally I planned on getting the 40″ Z series last year. But when the new models came out this year, the 40″ W series offered everything I was looking for a little bit cheaper price. It has a good looking profile and was a snap to set-up. I used the Cheetah tilting mount that I also purchased from amazon. Don’t let anyone fool you. The Cheetah mount is just as good or better than the expensive mounts. I already had a ps3 so the XMB menu system was very familiar. This is a great tv for the money.

The only con I can think of is that the remote doesn’t have a 1 button sleep timer. You have to go through the menus.

BTW: Amazon did a great job. I order TV on a Thursday and the following Wednesday the tv was hanging on my wall. Nice Service.

1 Star Defective on arrival
The tv was great for about 3 hours until a vertical neon green line appeared close to the right of the screen. After talking with Sony techs and not having the issue resolved, customer service agreed to replace the tv with a new one. I will review the new one when it arrives. I’ve always had a SONY in the house. This set is being used as our main TV. The picture is sharp and bright. I also purchased an all in one sony home theater audio system, which really helps with the ordinary stereo sound the tv produces on it’s own. I will always own a SONY

I had purchased this cable months ago to hook up my laptop to my Samsung 40′ 1080p. I read all the reviews, did my research and was not surprised when I got these cables, PERFECT picture and sound. Never even considered wasting 100 $ or more on monster cables and this cable just re-ensured my thoughts on how those cables are truly a ripoff. 5 Stars Great Length and Quality, but at the fraction of the cost!
I have been looking for an HDMI cable that would give me the performance I needed, and the length I needed without breaking the bank. This cable is thick, high quality, and meets all the same specs as any expensive 1.3 Certified HDMI has, and it will give you the same performance.

My father paid 60 dollars for a shorter Monster Cable, I paid 1/12 of the price and still got the same high quality image and noise protection that he did. The only difference was that my cable didn’t have the monster sticker on the connectors.

I have used and tested this cable on my PS3, and Laptop leading out to various LCD and Plasma HDTV displays, and I have seen no difference in quality from my father’s monster cable.

If you are looking for quality and performance without the brand name and price, then this cable is the answer to your problems.

4 Stars Works as well as the Wineguard Squareshooter outdoor antenna
I also have a Wineguard Square Shooter outdoor antenna. And this SS-3000 indoor antenna works at least as well. I live in the Evergreen area of San Jose, CA. And I am able to pick up all the major broadcast stations *most* of the time (ABC 7-x and Fox 2-x sometimes drop out). But I truly only care about the PBS channels and sub-channels (9-x, 54-x), and I always receive them, so I’m mostly happy. I would give it 5 stars, but I do have the complaint is that there are no mounting locations, brackets, or holes anywhere on the anntenna–forcing you to need to place it on top of some flat surface. Also, the material and construction quality are flimsier than what it looks like in the photos; but that doesn’t really matter.

3 Stars It’s not the antenna’s fault!!!
I purchased this antenna because my old rabbit’s didn’t seem to be cutting it with the digital stuff. Well, it seems it wasn’t my old rabbit’s fault either!! My problem was receiving the “cheap” stations that flipped back to VHF after the digital conversion. I did get more channels with the Winegard, but still not the VHFs. If I took the TV and antenna to the top floor of my house and put the Winegard in the window that pointed exactly in the direction the VHFs come from, I did get pixilated video…but who wants to sit through that for an hour?!?! My only hope would have been to get an outdoor antenna and drill holes through the house…Well, I returned the antenna to Amazon and broke down and bought the ‘basic analog’ cable package for my area.

I purchased this for my HD LCD TV and it is great. I live about 23 miles from the broadcast towers in San Francisco on a hill. I get about 20 or so channels, many in HD. I only watch less than half because some are foreign languages and some are just boring. But, the quality is as good as cable. I am very impressed.

I really enjoy this product. It works great in my walkout basement away from all windows and doors. The product is rather large though (only reason it got 4 stars, not because it doesn’t work) and does not fit well on my t.v. entertainment center so it definitely looks out of place. But for the money, it is well worth it. I live in a small metro area with about 12 stations and get them all but one just fine without problems. I don’t have to turn the antenna to get different channels, I get them all in one spot and in clear HD. So far is has worked on sunny and very stormy days without issue. I have heard that even though an amplifier works good for some, it does more harm than good for some channels. Other antennas allow you to use it with or without the amplifier but this won does not have that option, it’s always amplified. I don’t know much about antennas as this is the first one I have ever used. I did lots of research and heard this was the best. I get very clear HD reception in a basement away from the doors and windows. It’s more about what you have around you and what type of material it is. Metal buildings cause a lot of reception problems. best idea is to ask friends or neighbors to see what works for them and search for info around your area. The internet is great for getting information, but things like this are very local issues. Go to your local best buy or electronics store and ask around to see what works best as they will usually know. Good luck to you!

5 Stars Winegard SS-3000 PERFECT HD INDOOR ANTENNA FOR LOS ANGELES
The Winegard SS-3000 Indoor HD Antenna has miraculously changed my free HDTV experience. I initially bought a Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna in which first the metal coxal cable connection snapped off. The second replacement order of the same Philips Amplified Antenna broke when adjusting the metal rabbit ears. The Winegard SS-3000 is definitely heavy duty & will not break if it falls. I live on the 3rd floor of a 4-story apartment complex in the densest section of Los Angeles & my reception is great! Mine just arrived and had out the box a bright yellow vertical line in the center of the screen. Certainly disapointed I filed for exchange of item. Hopefuly the exchanged item is free of defects. I will update my review as soon as I got the replacement.

1 Star Viore 26 inch is so far a disappointment
The unit has inconsistent color and contrast depending on where the viewer is sitting. Below the screen, the color goes to almost black as you bend down in front of it. We have spoken to tech support and the process will be for us to take it to a technician (hopefully fairly close to us!) and have it repaired. We are awaiting a response from them as to where and when. My husband isn’t a very happy camper right now!

This TV was an excellent buy and the picture quality was very good. However, being a new product and obscure brand, it was not compatible to my NYC cable company. There was no TV code for it. When I contacted VIORE about this, they said there was not expectation of codes in the future. Therefore I returned set.

5 Stars Panasonic 42″ 720p Plasma
I actually purchased a Panasonic plasma in June of 2007 but feel compelled to review it now that I have owned it for so long. First things first. Plasma is the best thing going. The key element in picture quality is black level retention and no LCD tv with it’s bright backlight shining towards the viewer from behind the screen can EVER produce the deep blacks necessary for color accuracy and a life like picture. I think LCD’s are very nice and have one in my bedroom but it does not compare to the plasma, especially the poor viewing angle. Back to the Panasonic. They rock the plasma industry with the best and most reliable sets at the most competitive prices. I have dual tuner DVR HD set top box and Sony blu-ray player. Let me tell you the picture still amazes me every time I watch it even after two years. I have seen blu-ray run through newer 1080p models and truthfully people if 1080p is better, my 50 year old eyes cannot tell the difference. So save yourself a fortune if you are buying your first HDTV. Purchase this 720p Plasma at around $900. I paid $1,400 for mine and it was worth every penny. And even though I have a sweet 7.1 home theater set up I still am amazed at the volume output and rich sound quality these nearly invisible speakers built into the Panasonic can produce. Be sure to use the surround feature on the menu and it is quite impressive (with the exception of too little low end). Remember, LCD tv’s are very bright (almost cartoonishly so) but bright does not equal accurate or natural. The plasma is superior and you will come to appreciate that in the long run!!

5 Stars Great Plasma Buy
Excellent picture and features and great price. Although I still prefer my JVC rear projection TV for its picture and size, this TV is an excellent choice for a smaller room than our den. The only downside to this TV is the 720P limitation which would be an issue if you want to use it with Blueray or other high definition sources. On the plus side, it has an SD card reader that allows you set up a slide show with digital pictures. This TV replaced a smaller Vizio LCD TV and has a much better picture than the Vizio.

I bought this TV a few weeks ago and am still getting accustomed to its features and quirks. It is a second large screen TV in my home, placed in the bedroom. Granted, it is large for a bedroom, but our viewing distance to the TV warrants a larger image. This TV came home with me because of the combination of reviews here and on Consumer Reports, and the price point. Despite these good things going for it, rather than elation at my purchase, my experience thus far has been somewhat on the disappointing side.

My setup is very basic: standard def cable TV and DVD player. At first the cable TV hookup was via coax cable. The picture was nothing to write home about, less sharp than on my old 27 inch conventional TV. The first program I watched was “The Wizard of Oz” on TBS. The image was extremely dark, annoyingly so. Colors were very good, but I could not get around the degree of darkness in the dark scenes. Attempts to improve the brightness/ lower the black level were met with frustration; I couldn’t.

Reading info online subsequently pointed out you can only access the black level when “external devices” are plugged in. That means bump the connections up to S-video or component. (I would of course go to HDMI if I could, but my current cable box does not support it). Once I connected the cable via S-video, I was able to adjust and reduce the black level. That helped, but it is important to note the limited adjustment of black levels on this set: is either dark or light. That’s it; there are no gradations, nothing in between. That level of flexibility is inadequate. Compared to the flexibility of settings on my 46″ Samsung LCD, this unit falls far short in that area.

Sound on the unit is fine. I had no expectations that the TV’s audio would compare to that from even modest external speakers or home theatre setup. If I need oomph I need only move to my living room where a decent home theatre setup awaits. To its credit, there is the capability to ratchet the volume range a few notches beyond normal. This is valuable with my cable setup, as there are programs or times of day when the sound inexplicably drops and I have to crank it close to the max to hear it.

I watched a standard DVD on an older DVD player hooked to the TV via component cable. The image was fine, no complaints. After rearranging DVD players to hook a newer, up-converting player to the plasma via HDMI cable, the picture it produced was as good as I could have hoped for: clear, sharp, good color rendition and good black levels. Without a 1080P set side by side, I did not feel the 720p video capability on this set was a compromise. Higher end sources (digital cable, Blu-ray) might make a difference, but without a 1080p set right next to it in my home, I can’t compare, and so I don’t feel as though I have lost anything at 720p. That said, I do feel the image is much richer and more alive on my LCD. Despite favoring the LCD image, I went for this plasma due to the combination of reviews, larger screen size and lower price when compared to a 40 inch LCD. It was a stretch to convince my wife we “needed” this set; explaining an additional $250 expenditure given how little we watch TV in the bedroom would have been my undoing.

The specs for this set show it to have an anti-reflective screen filter. I find this helpful. However, the glossy black bezel surrounding the screen is highly reflective, so whatever reflections are not caught on the screen are bounced back from the bezel; disconcertingly so. The stand is also gloss black, and any specks of dust that land on it show very clearly.

Overall, and so far, the set meets my minimum criteria. It is a lower-end unit in Panasonic’s line, provides very good standard picture and sound, but there are important adjustment capabilities missing. While my situation did not warrant it, if this is going to be your main TV, spring for the extra $250 or so and buy the next level 1080P plasma or LCD set. The cost difference to bump up in quality and features will long have been forgotten in a few months’ time, you will future-proof your TV-viewing for a few years, and you will have a better set.

4 Stars TV is good, but shipping is not.
Yes. 720P is enough. 42 inch is also enough for me (less than 3 meter distance).

CONS: But the channel scan is not perfect. 1st, each time you scan auto, the previous result is remove all. Because now is digital TV broadcast, so you may not scan all channel at one time due to antenna direction(if you haven’t cable service). That’s a problem for me. Sometimes I could found channel 4 and 11, but now I couldn’t while almost 44 channel are scan out.

Shipping is not so good. Pilot customer service seem to lie to me. They didn’t call me by shipping date. I called the customer service and she said they already called me but no answer. But my wife stayed in home all day, and there is answer system with my home phone. I really doubt they always play this tricky. Also the guys take the TV into my living room and mount the TV. But they left the package box.

5 Stars Excellent TV
I bought the Panny TC-P42X1 to replace a relatively new Toshiba LCD for our bedroom.

This Panny is an outstanding tv in every respect. What I especially like is the strong volume this thing puts out. I could barely hear the Toshiba whereas this Panny can blast you out of the room at 60% volume setting.

This Panny is our 2nd plasma, the 1st one is still going strong in the family room. I will never own another LCD, they just don’t compare. If you have any doubts, just go to any showroom and press/depress the screen of each with your thumb, as if to leave a thumbprint……then make your choice.
